MOON FATEMA JERIN

CO-FOUNDER AND PRESIDENT OF IEEE - WOMEN IN ENGINEERING CHAPTER, UNIVERSITY OF WINDSOR, CANADA

Currently pursuing a Civil and Envirnomental Engineering degree at the University of Windsor, Moon Fatema Jerin, is a firm believer that compassion is the only way to resolve problems in the world.  Her goal in life is to never stop growing, always be compassionate, be grounded and help the under- privileged people in the world with her analytical skills and business mind.  She believes that Women should have more access and fair treatment in Engineering, technology and innovation. She was the co-founder and President of IEEE-Women in Engineering chapter at the University of Windsor. She has been the President of Ontario Public Interest Research Groups and has also served as the Provincial Representative for OPIRG Canada. As a part of this group she learned a great deal of social justice issues such as women rights, animal rights, racism and also various environmental issues.  She has also been the Director of Corporate development at the AIESEC Windsor and was the Vice president of Fundraising for the AIESEC Ontario Regional Conference. AIESEC is the world's largest student-run organization. Moon has also served on the board of Engineers without Borders as a Vice president of Finance. 

Beside all the volunteer activities, Moon also held the position of the Student Groups Coordinator for the University of Windsor student Alliance. She worked as a research engineer for Union Gas-EnerSmart to reduce energy in the industry.  She has worked as a research assistant for Dr.Niahar Biswas, Dr. Ram Balachandar, Dr. Rupp Carrivue and Dr. Hannah Maoh. She is a competent leader of Toastmasters International and currently working on her Competent Communicator designation.  Currently she is working towards Golden Future Project so she can go to South Africa in April 2011 to help HIV/AIDS patients and under privileged citizens of South Africa. She believes in Organic, locally-made and sustainable purchases. She has done over 200 hours of volunteering with Ten Thousand Villages, an organization which helps people from third-world countries to get competitive wages and helps to reduce poverty.  Moon is a Yogi and she loves to meditate.
