JOERI DERYCKERE
(International Student Senate 2010-2011)

MEMBER OF GOVERNORS AND EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE, GHENT UNIVERSITY, BELGIUM

Joeri Deryckere is a history major currently pursuing a supplementary master's degree in General  Economics at Ghent University (UGent). During his career as a students' representative, he was a member on the Faculty Board of the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, managed the social and external policy of the Ghent Students' Union (GSR) as vice-president, and fulfilled positions as an external representative of the National Union of Students in Flanders (VVS).

He came into contact with the Flemish and international educational world and managed to give students a voice in major issues.  The prolongation of the master's degree, the accreditation of university courses in the Netherlands and Flanders and the integration of academic bachelor courses into the universities in Flanders were his main points of interest during these years.

In March 2010, Joeri was elected by his peers to be a member on the Board of Governors and the Executive Committee of Ghent University. The skills he acquired during the past period of commitment support him as a students' representative: social awareness, team play, negotiation management and file knowledge.  The focus on the social dimension of higher education processes in Ghent, Flanders and Europe remains of utmost importance to him.
