James Counsell is currently in his final year studying for an undergraduate degree in philosophy, at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge. He is the President of the Cambridge Union Society, the largest student society in the United Kingdom and the oldest debating society in the world. He first became involved with the Union through its schools competition, the largest debating competition in the world, for which he was one of three conveners. His other interests at Cambridge include journalism. He is a frequent contributor to Varsity, the most respected student newspaper in Britain, for which he writes an online blog. His leisure time is occupied by English pubs and games of squash.
